Short Animation Rubric

Animation: Character AnimationAnimation: Character AnimationCopy and paste this onto your blog, then answer the questions. MAKE SURE TO LOG OUT OF YOUR HILLIARDSCHOOLS.ORG ACCOUNT BEFORE YOU LOG INTO BLOGGER!

Describe a challenge (or set of challenges) you faced in planning for your sequence.
My initial issue was knowing how to incorporate an animation with the bit of audio I got. The clause was a fast sort of sentence transition and was hard to work with. I had to keep forming ideas and scrap them because they would become to long or leer to far from the topic.

How did you meet the challenge?
I came to sort of a time sensitive and non-tasteful decision. I incorporated humor and use of old an corny magazines to make up for my part.

Describe your rationale for animating what you animated, and for using the method (stop frame vs cut paper vs handdrawn vs rotoscope etc) you chose.
I used magazine clippings to make my short animation. I wanted to go further and do some sort of rotoscope animation, but this objective was time sensitive. My idea might seem random, but I put some thought into it. I used things that I remember were around when I was 10 years old (audio clip mentions being a kid at the age of 10). I used a clipping of Spongebob, Patrick, and George Bush in David Hasselhoff's hand. I clearly remember the show Spongebob Squarepants starting when I was ten and that Bush was president at the time. It is truly random, but it sufficed.

What was the best part of the project? The worst?

I believe the best part was the mixture of creative minds that compiled the animations to go to the audio log. Using people to make parts of a film is sort of disorganized, but can look beautiful at times. The worst thing I think is the way some animations were made. Whether they were off topic or just choppy. I feel responsible for being apart of the crowd that might of made the anecdote leer from sheer greatness.

Antagonist Vs. Protagonist

You will write details about six characters; three antagonists, three protagonists.

Begin with one character, a protagonist. Write down their name. Write their current desires and motivations in life. Write down their childhood/backstory. These are the most important pieces.

Now write down their physical description, physical quirks, personality flaws. This is secondary to the motivation and backstory. It’s the icing on the cake, and it’s still important.

Now write that character’s nemesis using the exact same process (desires, backstory, physical ing onionsand personality quirks, etc). Think about why and how they are blocking the protagonist from achieving their goal. Is it malicious? Accidental?

Repeat this with two other sets of characters.

NOTE: You do not have to use all or any of these characters for your video if you don’t want to. It is an exercise to get you thinking about character building. On the other hand, this may trigger some brilliant thought that leads to a wonderful video project. You won’t know unless you put your heart and head into it.

Robert Lube - Protagonist
Robert is a man in his mid-forties that works as a mechanic in the northern sector of Detroit. He barely graduated with a high school diploma and is just trying to get by. He was born and raised in Detroit, only to be raised by his mother. They ran off of welfare and government handouts for most of their lives. He wanted to escape the low life and try to sustain himself with enough money to pay bills and buy necessities. Robert is of two functioning mechanics in the auto-repair shop he works at. He still lives with his mother but is the one caring for her and paying the bills. His mother is a daredevil and manages to get in some dangerous situations. Robert watches over her and protects her, for she is all he has.

Franchesca Lube - Antagonist
She is the mother to Robert Lube and about 91 years old. Ever since she was a child she has had a taste for dangerous situations. The man she married and had Robert with left her because she wanted to shot baby Robert out of a cannon and into a factory that produces shards of glass when he was born. She never had a successful job and had to raise Robert in poverty. Franchesca is very lonely and doesn't know what to do with herself when he goes to work. She makes it her goal to do something very dangerous everyday because it really turns her on. She doesn't want Robert to worry about her, yet she manages to give him a near heart attack all the time.

Manuel Ernest - Protagonist
Public enemy of his small town in Poland, Manuel is a man that has been in hiding for years and can't seem to find a way out of this mess. He is 23 years old and lost his job due to the town's opposition towards him. The only reason he is the public enemy is because he forgot to put on a shirt one day. Much of his family lives elsewhere, so he is on his own. He lives in the basement of a sealed up abandoned house. He tries not to get make personal contact with anyone considering he is shot-on-sight by military. He feels he needs to escape because he doesn't want to turn out to be a hermit when he grows up.

Jerry King The Mailman - Antagonist
Member of the city council and avid book enthusiast, Jerry is a 62 year old mailman. He is the man that has been doing the same route that Manuel lives on for years. Jerry is a perfectionist when is comes to delivering mail and is aggravated with the one house that has mail piling up on the front porch. The is vandalized and damaged but sealed up tight; all of the town knew Manuel lived there. Jerry made it his goal to break into that house to make sure he got all of his mail.

Jessica Blancade - Protagonist
A little 8 year old of a big family living out in Utah. She is somewhat of a middle child and has a hard time gaining attention. She wants to make it her goal to get noticed more so she starts to become very aggressive and destructive. Everyday, she manages to cause pain to someone in her family. Her parents still neglect to notice her and presume to mark her off as a number. She is convinced that she needs to be more extreme and decides to go large scale in her blunt attempts to get noticed.

Zicter Blancade - Antangonist
Zicter is the older brother of Jessica and has just turned 13 years old. He has noticed what Jessica is trying to do. He wants to destroy her permanently because she has taken it way to far man. He is home schooled and so is the rest of the family. He attempts to kill her daily with the use of large rocks, anvils, and dynamite. He is willing to do what it takes to protect his family from the evil residing in Jessica.

Screen Write

Dispute

A teenager is conflicted with a bland and uncanny life he has let himself develop. He will be opposing himself throughout with various actions.

Scene 1: Justin 1 finds himself observing all of his home work and chores provided by his parents on his desk in  his bedroom. He walks to the window and looks down to see Justin 2 playing around outside in the front yard. Justin 1 then torpidly returns to his seat and commences to work on some math homework. Justin 2 opens the door in a furious and obstructive manner. He walks to the desk and throws the math homework to the ground. Justin 1 picks the homework back up, in a sluggish manner, and goes back to doing homework. Justin 2 pours kerosene on the papers and lights them on fire. Justin 1 stand up, glares at Justin 2 and walks out of the bedroom.

Scene 2: This will be a compilation of multiple scenes residing around Justin's House:
  • Justin 1 will be vacuuming while Justin 2 unplugs the power cord (small repetitive fight)
  • Justin 1 raking leafs into a decent pile while Justin 2 kicks the leaves around and causes a rut
  • Justin 1 will take out the trash and stop to tie his shoe as Justin 2 sneaks up to the trash bag and stabs at it with a knife furiously and then sneaks away leaving Justin 1 with a mess
  • Justin 1 picks up dog poop in backyard with a poop pail and places it near the backdoor to his garage. He proceeds to walk back to the sliding glass door as Justin 2 sneak up a distance behind him with the pail in his hands. He throws the dog poop towards Justin 1 managing to hit him with some. (Note* it wont be real poop being thrown at him, but small dirt-like projectiles) Justin 1 will turn around slightly upset with the same muggy glare he has been giving Justin 2.
  •  Justin 1 proceeds to take a shower and Justin 2 comes in to pour cold water, from a bowl, on Justin 1 over the shower curtain. He will run off and Justin 1 will pull the curtain slightly to give a glare
Scene 3: Justin 1 is sitting at a kitchen table staring at Justin 2. They are both at opposite ends of the table. The shot will have view of the whole table so that both Justin's will be visible. Justin 2 will fade away and Justin 1 will get up and walk out of the scene. Justin 1 will open the front door to his house and see multiple Justin 2's standing in the front yard staring at him. He will then blink and they will all be gone.

Portrait of a Place Reflection

What was the place you tried to portray?
I portray a place that I went to as a kid in the past with a few friends. It was an old abandoned railroad station and had many old converters and guard stations. We would hide stuff there like magazines, BB guns, and money. The place presently is stripped of its tracks and leveled. This saddens me for this place was a refuge for my friends and I.

What details did you choose to portray about this place?
I tried to get footage of most of the area. I wanted to show the overpass to show people that this station is in a common area of the city of Hilliard over Cemetery Rd. I examined a lot of what was rusting a breaking down to show that the place is rustic and fading away.

What changes did you make to your plan along the way? That is, how did your pre-production plan change when you filmed, and what new discoveries did you make in post-production?

I originally planned to have my walk into the frame of each shot and fade out walking. I wanted to emphasize the meaning of my faded past and of what I use to do in the area.

Name at least one change (or more) you would like to make to your film. Why?
I would like to add a tripod into use. I feel the less shaky the film is, the easier it is to recognize the shot itself.

Highlight the boxes where you feel you fit.

I Remember..Thr

I Remember:

  • The rusted train tracks
  • The broken and rusted out converter boxes
  • The various items my friend and I put in the converter boxes
  • The rocks rusted from weather and time that surrounded the tracks
  • The displaced or missing track parts and nails that made up the tracks
  • The smell of the sulfuric deposits surrounding the track's sites
  • The view over the overpass the tracks covered, which had the sight of busy road beneath
  • The gearboxes here and there that surrounded the tracks.
  • The neighborhood fencing that blocked off normal living from the abandoned track station
  • The gravel road that lead from the tracks to an abandoned factory
  • The crows perched upon the rusted conveyor belts extruding from the factory
  • The make-shift glass shanks that my friend and I created and hid in the pond residing on a side of the tracks
  • The sound of wind gusting and altering in frequency due to the brush and rusted converter boxes  in the area
I Don't Remember..
  • The location of the converter boxes
  • Whether or not we were allowed to be there

Portrait of a Place Short Story

  1. 1.What kind of details does Carver choose to describe the “place?”
He gets very descriptive at each introduction to a piece of furniture or item. He manages to explore finer detail when is comes to location of certain things. Craver also uses the people to help better describe the environment in which they perform actions.
  2. 2.What do the following passages tell you about the place?
This following passage tells me that she is outside with the furniture that the man put in his front yard. The girl ultimately thinks that all the furnishings are for sale considering the man placed them all outside even though he had no intention to sell them.
The girl sat on the bed. She pushed off her shoes and lay back. She thought she could see a star.”

“Lights came on in the houses up and down the street.”
  3. 3.Now look at the passages that you chose. How do they talk about the place? Why are they important or unimportant?
"It must be a yard sale," the girl said to the boy.
This girl and this boy were furnishing a little apartment.
"Let's see what they want for the bed," the girl said.
"And for the TV," the boy said.
The boy pulled into the driveway and stopped in front of the kitchen table.

This passage reflects on the place as what the couple sees it as, which is a yard sale out front of someone's house. They both inferred from previous sights an experiences in their life that the furnishings outside are for sale. This is important to the story because it makes me wonder how the man was going to respond to people touching and using his furnishings without any consent.

Group Movie Project

Criteria: Group Movie Project

Describe your role in the production of the class movie. How did your contribution make things more efficient? How did you help make the movie better? What specific contributions did you make? Did you go above and beyond, or simply show up? Be honest.
My role in this film was to be a Sci-fi captain and I also worked with audio coordination. I played my role according to how I felt a science fiction nerd would react in a situation brought about in such a film recorded. I also took part in managing the way certain scenes should look as to the script. I believe my contribution allowed the film to be what it is now. I put forth my faith and passion into the play so that I could see it for not just what was presented in my mind but on the camera.

Describe one or more things you learned about the writing process that you did not know before working on this project.
The writing of a film in any occasion is fairly challenging. There needs to be a lot of thought and organization put into though when formulating an idea into a film. I did not know that as much as an idea is good it has to be fairly reasonable to capture. My ideas are very extraneous with no constraint and now I know that my mind has to have some restriction.

Describe one or more things you learned about the production (filming) process that you did not know before working on this project.
The first thing that I learned was that camera angles and zooms matter significantly. They put so much depth and meaning into a film. My projects this year will definitely reflect upon what I learned from this project.

Describe one or more things you learned about the post-production (editing, sound, etc.) process that you did not know before working on this project.
I learned basically that audio overlapping can work great in a film. The aspect is fairly engaging and can make a scene feel more in depth. The use of fading and dissolving can always smooth out a final product.

Are you satisfied with the final product? Why or why not? Be honest.
I honestly think that this film could of been better. The idea jumped around so much and had to be refined to what time we had available. The filming was decent with all of the pans and zooms, but they weren't all that dramatic.

Suggest one improvement for next year’s class. What could I do to make it easier/better/more informative/more fun?
I feel you getting more involved with the individual students can really improve the class. Having a one on one chat with someone can really improve the relationship with the student and the teacher. It with help you understand our background more.

What is Creativity?

The word creativity had dated back since ancient times. This word is used to describe a figment of the mind portray through a person's intellect. You could say that the world and society was created through the concept of creativity relative to the mind. Many a person can be shaped by their own creativity. People, through the years, have been judged by their creative thinking or ideals. I generally find that without creativity there isn't a societal standard. Artists nowadays feed off of creativity and observation of other persons perspective.

The reason why someone might look at something different is for the fact that they perceive it differently depending on how they see it. Opinion itself is creative thought and can be treated negatively or positively. Many artists have been look to as heros while others are looked to as villains. What they create and visualize is their initial display of the creativity they have in their mind. This creativity is effected by their surroundings and experiences which can have significant alteration on the mind. This is why someone might not see what significance lies in the artist's creative, for their mind might be of opposition based on their background.

Many cultures stand apart as to social, economic, and industrial objectives. The many creative thoughts that came out of the earliest of leaders have greatly altered the way people live now. Engineers, for instance, use creativity to solve real-world problems. I plan to use my mind in this class and many others to show people who I am through my creative thought and opinion.
